The GOAL executive team and volunteers attended a recognition event on August 25, 2022 at the Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park. Liberty Coca-Cola hosted the group in their company box suite. It was a way for members to come together, but also a time for the executive team to recognize the hard work and dedication of members who have served the organization over the last few years, efforts that have led to significant achievements for GOAL.
Board members took the opportunity to also recognize former Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) deputy commissioner Joseph Sullivan. Sullivan was awarded with a plaque and a small token of appreciation for his allyship during his tenure as deputy commissioner. Sullivan was a true ally and consistently advanced LGBTQ+ efforts within the department. His allyship and advocacy led to PPD members marching in uniform for the first time in the Philadelphia Pride Parade in 2018. This led to GOAL inviting Philadelphia Fire Department and the local FBI office to also march in the parade. Additionally, Sullivan worked to have the first marked police vehicle to display LGBGTQ+ pride during June and created the first LGBTQ+ liaison position within the Community Relations Unit.
Everyone who attended had a great time! The GOAL executive team thanks all of the members who continue to advance the mission of the organization. The team looks forward to more of these types of events in the future.
